Antigua Native Stories
If you grew up in Antigua in the 1950s under British rule, It's hard to look back without some disdain and nostalgia for the colonial era. A lot has changed since then, so there's enough to compare the different times. Are things better today? Some will argue yes without any reservations, but some may not agree to a certain extent.
Nevertheless, it's humbling and enlightening to hear the personal account of those who experienced what life was like back then compared to where things are today. The native stories of the village elders chronicle the life, journey, struggles, resilience, and triumph over British rule.
One cannot deny the progress and gains made after the country attained Independence in 1981. However, the shared values, unique skill sets, and long-held traditions have been lost, forgotten, and abandoned on the journey since 1952.
